Americanism Poster Contest
The youth programs sponsored by the National Society, Sons of the American Revolution include an elementary school poster contest to stimulate interest in American History and support fifth grade US History curriculums. Each year the poster topic is changed to recognize a person or event of significance during the American Revolution.
Annual Alternating Themes
Even Academic Years: Theme shall be "Revolutionary War Events"
Odd Academic Years: Theme shall be "Revolutionary War Persons"
California Society Judging Rules
Please follow specifications precisely to protect entry eligibility:
- Fifth Grade Students Only: Configured explicitly to align with the California public school curriculum frameworks.
- Standard Dimensions: All entries must be constructed on standard 22x28 inch poster board arrays.
- Flat Construction Only: No "3-D" objects, texturing layers, or dimensional attachments will be accepted for state judging.
- Individual Efforts: No group project works. Each submission must be the unassisted product of a single individual.
- Research Verification: Posters must actively conform to the yearly designated theme and clearly present historical evidence of research.
- Front Masking Safeguard: DO NOT print the student's name, school name, or class markings on the front face of the poster board.
- Back Registration Ledger: Clearly record the following details strictly on the back of the poster: Student Name, Age, Grade, Teacher Name, School Name, District, and Sponsoring SAR Chapter — "Sacramento Chapter".
